Space Age Fashion

The fashion world has been inspired by space and all that comes with it as early as the 1920's . Fashion Design much like the universe is vast, forever growing , changing. As art almost always imitates life , space age fashion was truly born with the "space race" of the late 1950's and early 1960's. It has held it's continuity through the  science fiction boom of 60's, 70's, and 80's. I like to think it was the precursor to the y2k, and futurism based styles from the 1990s until now ! It's safe to say that the possibilities are endless. When I think of space age fashion Paco Rabanne, Pierre Cardin, Emilio Pucci, and Star Trek immediately come to mind ! Everyone has their own inspired interpretation of outer space... Who do you think of ?

Queen of Sheba Costumes 1959

Costumes designed by Ralph Jester  Although I am constantly disgusted at hollywood’s infamous erasure of KNOWN BLACK WOMEN historical figures & their obsession of replacing them with mediocre incomparable counterparts , the costumes in this movie are beautiful .  I certain sure Makeda’s original garb put these costumes to shame. But nevertheless take a look below.  For more images scroll through :  HERE
